The name of the company comes from the founding couple's daughter Maja. When Maja was born, there was a sudden worry that something might happen to her. Petra and Pierre Jonsson then thought that they wanted to help, so that if Maja should ever suffer from a serious illness such as cancer, they would at least have done their best to help research to solve the mystery of childhood cancer. With Petra's experience in product development and purchasing in the interior design industry, the idea of Maja's Lanterns was born - lanterns that touch. It went without saying that they would put extra heart and soul into the company and supporting the Children's Cancer Foundation with their products was something they really wanted to do. Buying beautiful furnishings and knowing that they also symbolize that you have done something good - that is the best feeling for Petra and Pierre Jonsson and a win-win for everyone. In 2012, they founded the company at home in their basement and started selling their first Maja lantern, a lantern with empowering words designed to bring light, joy, comfort and hope in the fight against cancer, especially childhood cancer. Each lantern was sold to benefit the Children's Cancer Foundation. 10% of the retailers' purchase price goes to the Children's Cancer Foundation or to charity.
